Jesus in the desert confronting the devil.

Battle Temptation with Humble Submission

My Dear Parishioners,

Today’s Scripture readings teach us that the way to battle temptation is humble submission and not macho willpower. We see Jesus in the desert confronting Satan not with miracles of divine omnipotence but with constant use of the Word of God. This Word does not express our plan and preferences; but only the loving plan of salvation that God has for all of us. Our consent to this plan is not so much striving with our own resources for a huge victory on a battlefield. Rather it is UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER to a power greater than us. He knows what we really need and is willing to provide it if only we let go! This is an act of bravery and
strength rather than weakness or cowardice.

St. Paul writes that “it is in Him that I am strong. Let us not be afraid to venture out into the desert of our Lenten journey. Jesus accompanies us and achieves the victory for us.” Please use the helps He has given His People in the battle: PRAYER, FASTING and works of CHARITY.

Avail yourselves of the Sacrament of Confession. Beside the regularly scheduled times I will be available before Mass. It is a blessing to join with you on the yearly journey toward Easter.

Sincerely in Christ!
Father David Kozak
