My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
What’s in a name? In Jesus’ time your name meant EVERYTHING, your purpose in life, the reason you exist. When John the Baptist was born, his father insisted that he be called John. His purpose in life was to witness that God is gracious and good. He wants the best for us and has placed us in His Heart as His beloved children. His message of salvation prepared the way for the ultimate salvation the Jesus brings (=God saves).
Our parishes have wonderful names. The Incarnation is the fundamental belief of our Catholic faith that God loved the world so much that He chose to send His Son in flesh and blood to live among us. He can still be found here. The Holy Ghost is the power of God’s love in person working today in our parish family.
The question we need to ask is whether we are living up to the name we bear.
Is it a reality, as individuals and as a parish? Do some research. Why were we given our proper names? What is God trying to tell us through the name we bear? Let us strive to live up to the name of Catholic Christian, the common name that we all bear.
God bless you and your loved ones
